敬的大使阁下,谢谢您抽出宝贵的时间来接受我们的采访,分享您在双边关系、经济合作、教育交流以及旅游等领域的观点。
Your Excellency, thank you for taking your precious time to take this interview, shareing with us your personal opinions toward bilateral relations, economic cooperation, education exchanges and tourism .
LOOKWE: China and Philippines established the diplomatic relations on June 9th 1975. In the past 40 years, China and Philippines maintained close partnership, especially in politics, economy, culture, education and other sectors. The collaborations between the two countries are known as the role model for many other countries. As the ambassador to China, how will you promote the bilateral relationship into a higher level for China and Philippines?
Ambassador: With this in mind, I believe that both our peoples stand to further benefit mutually from each other in the coming years in the following three areas: 1. Realizing the full potential of our countries’ economic complementarities in this era of enhanced global economic integration.
2. Increasing collaboration in science, technology and innovation to jointly address pressing issues such as sustainable growth, food security, energy security, environmental pollution, and preservation of bio diversity, among others.
3. Increasing the number of exchanges of students, teachers, and young professionals to further enhance understanding and build trust and confidence with each other.
LOOKWE: As for economic cooperation between the Philippines and China, in 2014 the bilateral trade achieved 14% increase, which shows more powerful development momentum between our two countries. What fields do you think are expected to have deep cooperation? Or are there any specific projects to be recommended to the Chinese investors?
Ambassador: According to our our latest investment priority list, the preferred areas of direct investments in the Philippines are:manufacturing、agro-business and fisheries、services、low-cost housing、hospitals、energy、public infrastructure and logistics、public -private partnership projects.
In addition, one of the top dollar earners of the country is the business process management services, which is a $16 billion industry, which focuses on the following areas:call services、banking, financial and insurance services、healthcare、media、engineering、creative process services- which includes animation and game development.
LOOKWE: Let’s talk about the education exchanges, we noticed that more and more Filipino students come to China to get their futher study, while in the mean time, the number of Chinese students in the Philippines were already among the top five student groups , so what’s your suggestion or advices to those students who have intention to study in China or in Philippines?
Ambassador: Educational exchanges is very important because it bridges the cultural divide between peoples. The Philippines is a good alternative and it is also geographically closer to China, which enables students or their parents to see each other more frequently.
Chinese students are already among the top five student groups in the Philippines, while about 1,000 Filipino students are currently enrolled in universities and college all over China. We would like to see these numbers grow further. We hope to see even more Chinese people come to the Philippines to take advantage of what the Philippines has to offer in terms of education, while enjoying the warmth, graciousness and hospitality of the Filipino people.
LOOKWE: Philippines is a very beautiful country which is endowed with various attractive scenery for diversified visitors. Besides, we heard that 2015 is the “Visit the Philippines Year (VPY)”. Would you mind sharing with us the brief introduction about applying visa?
Ambassador:At present, Chinese tourists travelling to the Philippines are required to have an entry visa.Chinese passport holders based in Beijing, and provinces under its jurisdiction (i.e. Heibei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Henan, Gansu, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Tianjin, Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Xinjiang, and Tibet) can apply for their visas at the Embassy. For Chinese individuals applying at the Embassy but whose passports were issued outside of the above-mentioned provinces, the Embassy requires them to apply personally.Aside from the Embassy in Beijing, we have four (4) consulates general in Mainland China (i.e. Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Xiamen) and two (2) Special Administrative Regions (i.e. Hong Kong and Macau), all with their respective areas of jurisdiction. The number of Philippine foreign posts in China and its locations provide Chinese tourists better access to our visa services.
LOOKWE:We all know Philippines boasts of the beautiful landscape and amazing culture. Besides, the underwater world of the Philippines is like paradise to the divers all around the world. Would you please share with us the other natural and cultural wealth of your country?
Ambassador: With its 7,107 islands, the Philippines offers a niche for everyone, whether your interests lean towards music and the arts, history and culture, sports, gastronomic delights, or basking in nature.
The Philippines is divided into three main groups of islands: Luzon (to the north), the Visayas (central islands), and Mindanao (south). Each major island offers diverse scenery and cultural experience.
